Description
Christmas celebrations in Mexico start on December 16th, which is when the “Posadas” start and last thru December 25th, Christmas eve. During this time it is not uncommon to hear fireworks “Cohetes” and church bells ringing during the day and night. If you live or are visiting the Lake Chapala area during December, don’t miss the Nativity Scenes (also known as ¨Creches¨) that are set up at the Ajijic San Andres Church.
Mexico is a very religious country so this event gathers a large crowd, arriving as early as possible will get you the best views. Make sure to visit the church to see the different Creches, since they are all live people re-enacting the birth of baby Jesus. After seeing the Nativity scenes make sure you stop by the plaza just down the street for some fresh hot “Canela” with rompope (Cinnamon tea with a spike of Rompope).
