The 2015 Globos Event in Ajijic

The 2015 Globos Event was a huge success.  It is one of my favorite events. I put two photos of our own globo at the beginning of this article because we at Access Lake Chapala are proud to participate in it and also proud that our globo was a lift off. Accesslakechapala globo. Both last year's globo and this year's globo made it into the air. That is a minor miracle as larger ones often do not...

The 37th Annual Chili Cook-Off, 2015 in Ajijic

The 37th Annual Mexican Chili Cook-Off was a great success. It started on Friday, February 27th and went through Sunday. It ended at five p.m. on Sunday, March 1st. It was held at the Tobolandia water park. This year the parade was very small. The Shriners were in it and the tour bus from Chapala. Instead of starting at six corners as it did on previous years, it started by the bank up on the Carretera....

Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras) Carnival Parade in Ajijic 2015

This is my third year of writing about the Fat Tuesday parade. Unfortunately, I was too sick to get out of my house to see it. My friend Ramon took these photos for me with his wide angle lens. The lens gives an interesting perspective.  Since I didn't take these photos, I can't comment much on them but I will give you some background information on the Fat Tuesday Parade. I hope next year I will not have...

A Visit to Lake Cajititlan Jalisco Mexico

Before I moved to Mexico I had the idea that I would settle near the smaller lake instead of Lake Chapala. I figured it would be less crowded than the popular Chapala area and less expensive.  But I have lived here for eight years and never bothered to even visit it until this last weekend. I had forgotten my previous plan of settling there. (Life was too good at the Lake Chapala area.) It was not a bad...

Catrina Dolls in the Chapala Malecon and Ajijic Plaza

I was a bit disappointed in the Catrina dolls this year, both in Ajijic and Chapala. You can form your own opinion after reading this article and referring back to the one I wrote last year on the same subject. The main problem--not as many as there were last year. In Chapala last year the dolls were all along the main malecon. This year, they did not start until the end of the malecon and then over to the...

Day of the Dead Altars in Chapala 2014

The Day of the Dead is one of the most popular holidays in Mexico. It celebrates the great circle of life--the passing of some and the birth of others. The dead are always remembered and kept alive in spirit in the hearts of Mexicans. Altars are put up on November 1st and 2nd. Sometimes these have been started weeks in advance and Mexicans put lots of thought and money into creating these altars. They are...

Mardi Gras Carnaval Parade in Ajijic 2014

This year's Mardi Gras parade in Ajijic was on Tuesday March 4th. It started around eleven in the morning and went from Constitution to Ocampo to six corners and back to the Plaza. There was also a night parade.  This was Fat Tuesday, the last day of the carnival season which always falls the day before Ash Wednesday, the first day of lent. Lent is the beginning of forty days of prayer, fasting and alms...

The 36th Annual Mexican Chili Cook-Off in Lake Chapala

The 36th Annual Mexican Chilli Cook-Off was held in Lake Chapala at the Tobolandia Water Park on February 14, 15, and 16th, 2014. I attended on the 15th and there was quite a crowd. I have never been to the Cook-Off when there was not a crowd. It is the biggest social event and fund raiser of the year.  If you like great food, beautiful arts and crafts, meeting friends and making new friends, interesting...

The 2013 Regatta Globos (Balloons) Event in Ajijic

This year we were lucky. The Globos Celebration came off without rain but as you can see from these photos, the sky was very overcast. The next day it started raining and we have had rain for days now. The gods must have been looking down on us last Saturday to keep the rains at bay for the day. The date was Sept. 14th and the place was the grounds on Revolucion street. In order to save myself a good seat,...
